One of my favourite things about social media is finding new independent businesses that are doing awesome things, so when Norfolk Natural Living replied to a tweet and asked if I’d like to review some of their products I, of course, said yes!
Their products are all natural and made by hand in their Norfolk workshop using locally sourced ingredients. When you read the website it is clear that the founder, Bella Middleton, is very passionate about the eco friendly products they create. She offers tips & insights at the bottom of every page and there’s also a section of how-to articles to help you on the way to a more eco home.
I was lucky enough to be sent a natural deodorant, some laundry detergent and a bottle of garment refresher to review free of charge. I’m the kinda girl that appreciates nice packaging and straight away Norfolk Natural Living did not disappoint. It was simple, practical, recyclable and looked great!
It seems my washing pile is constantly overflowing so I wasted no time in putting the clothing wash through it’s paces. Not only do I have a mini fashionista that changes her clothes 879 times a day but I also have a rambunctious 4 year old that insists on going through at least two changes of clothes every time he’s at the outdoor nursery. And then there’s my sweaty running gear and Andy’s fish farm gear. We’re a mucky bunch!
The detergent is concentrated so you only need a small amount and it comes in sea salt, lavender or unscented. I can’t stand strong smelling detergent so it’s great to have an unscented option, but I have to say I really like the subtle sea salt fragrance. Every wash I’ve done has come out clean and fresh despite it’s filthy state on entering the machine. Honestly, I’ve been so impressed with this clothing wash; it’s battled with mud, sweat and various trout-related odours like a pro!
This stuff is awesome. It’s the secret weapon in my mission to reduce the aforementioned laundry mountain! And it’s not just my sanity I’m trying to save but also the planet; according to Friends of the Earth, just one load of clothes could shed up to 17 million tiny plastic fibres! One way to reduce this rather scary number is to wash things less often. We really don’t need to wash clothes as often as we do. A lot of the time a spot wash & a quick squirt of garment refresher is all we need to get another wear out of an outfit. It’ll make your clothes last longer, too.
I love the simplicity of this spray which has just 3 ingredients; water, witch hazel and natural fragrance. Admittedly, the lavender scent is a little strong for me so next time I’d get the sea salt, but that’s just personal preference.
First of all it’s important to note the difference between deodorant and antiperspirant; deodorant stops the odour whereas antiperspirant stops you sweating altogether. It does this by blocking your pores with aluminium so that the sweat and toxins can’t get out…doesn’t sound too healthy, does it?! If you’re currently using an antiperspirant then you will go through a stage of armpit detox which Norfolk Natural Living cover really well in Bella’s tips at the bottom of the natural deodorant page. It’s completely normal so don’t panic!
I already use natural deodorants so didn’t have to detox but I did have to get used to using a roll on rather than a bar. To be honest, I’m not sure I’ve got the patience to wait for it to dry! That said, it is a great long-lasting deodorant and the lime fragrance is delicious. If you’re not a fan of citrus you can choose between fig, sea salt or rose. It is very wet so you only need a quick roll which means it should last longer than your average roll on.
Overall, Norfolk Natural Living gets a big thumbs up from me. They are a small family run business putting their heart and passion into their eco friendly products. Their attention to detail really shines through and I love Bella’s honesty when she says their use of fully recyclable PET packaging is “not a perfect solution, but it’s a start.”. You can also get your bottles refilled at their shop in Holt, Norfolk.
