The other night I was catching up on Bloglovin during yet another night feed and came across a post by Rachel the Hat about her dream destination of Lake Garda in Italy. It turns out that the holiday comparison site Ice Lolly are holding a blogger competition to win £1000 towards a holiday plus an Olympus Pen E-PL7 camera. So, all this got me thinking (between nodding off and dribbling on Thomas’s head) where would my dream destination be…

A lifetime ago I spent a glorious few months travelling solo around South East Asia. I started in Thailand then travelled through Cambodia and finally into Vietnam, spending a month in each country and meeting some wonderful people. It was by far the best time of my life. The vibrant sights, sounds and smells ignited my wanderlust and I have had itchy feet ever since. Unfortunately I had to fly back to dreary London before I had seen the north of the country so we have unfinished business. I missed out on seeing Halong Bay which I’m told is the jewel in Vietnam’s crown. It really is such a beautiful country. The beer is cheap, the food is delicious and you can get a tailor-made pair of shoes for just a few quid…what more could you want?!

White sand beaches, diving, dolphins, spice markets, beautiful architecture… sounds like a perfect honeymoon to me! We had planned to get married this November as it marks 10 years together but unfortunately our finances are looking a bit iffy thanks to some changes at The Other Half’s work. But when we do go ahead I would love a slice of this African paradise and maybe a trip over to the mainland for the obligatory safari adventures.

We have been to the Dordogne region of France on a number of occasions over the years and I always feel so at home there. There is something about the combination of the sunshine and relaxed lifestyle that I find really comforting.

Apart from a few days in Paris in my teens, I haven’t seen the rest of the country so I would love to pack us all into a camper and go exploring. Two kids, a crazy dog and a 6 foot fish farmer in a VW…that would work, right?!

Argyll & The Isles

I know what you’re thinking. “But don’t you live in Argyll?!”. Yup. But if you read my new year round up & resolutions the other week you’ll know that even after 4 years of living in Argyll we have barely been out of a ten mile radius! It’s ridiculous really. We have so much on our doorstep including the islands so I’d love to discover more of this beautiful area.

So, what conclusion did I come to at 3am on a cold January night? Where is my dream destination? Bed, that’s where. The Land of Nod. And preferably for more than a few hours at a time.

But failing that any of the above would do nicely, thank you!

If you’re a blogger and fancy your chances with Ice Lolly’s #SendMeAway competition you can read all about it here. They ask that you nominate 3 bloggers to write about their dream destination so I’m looking forward to reading the offerings of Gemma from Coffee, Kids & Ice Cream, Sarah from Ethel Explores and Katie from BeNourishd. All three are fabulous bloggers so go check them out!
