This morning we woke up to that magical first sprinkling of winter snow and needless to say the kids were very excited to get dressed & get out for a play. We have never made it to school so early! Luckily we were recently sent some snow boots* from Mountain Warehouse so this was the perfect opportunity to test them out.
“The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?” JB Priestley
I chose the Caribou style for both the kids as I thought the side velcro fastening would be easier for little hands to use. Plus Thomas has chunky legs and we often struggle to find boots to go over his calves. It was nice just to put them on him (actually, Madeleine did!) rather than have the usual wrestle with his wellies!
Madeleine has the fur trimmed version of the Caribou snow boots (£29.99) which also come in pink. Thomas’s blue & red snow boots are £25.99. Both are toasty warm thanks to the fur lining and also gloriously waterproof! We seem to have had a run of leaky wellies lately so I’m relieved to know the kids will actually have warm, dry feet this winter.
After feeding the birds we headed off to school bright and early so that Madeleine could have a play with her friends before lessons started. I find that snow boots can sometimes be quite clumpy and difficult for little ones to walk in, but not these; Thomas was easily running around in them. Just as the school bell rang Madeleine announced “These boots are so cool, Mummy! I love them and my feet are as warm as bath water!”. I, however, was wearing wellies and had lost the feeling in most of my toes. I think it might be time to invest in some snow boots for myself!
It’s safe to say that the kids are big fans of their new snow boots and I shall definitely be packing them for our trip to Aviemore in a couple of weeks. They’re comfy, cosy, easy to put on and are great quality; ticks all my boxes!
