I’m a bit of a stickler when it comes to my skincare routine. I’ve tried out a few new products over the years but I always go back to the same old face wash, cleanser & moisturiser. Now, there’s nothing wrong with sticking to what you know but the problem with my old favourites is that they are not necessarily cruelty free. Plus they are designed for the skin of my youth and, lets face it, I’m nearer my forties than my twenties!

So with my knackered old face in mind, I jumped at the chance to review ARK Skincare’s age specific range of products. At first glance they seemed to tick all my boxes; cruelty free, natural ingredients, independently owned and made in the UK, so I was looking forward to my package of goodies arriving.

When the box arrived on my doorstep I was pleased to find a beautifully packaged bundle of products including a moisturiser, face wash, lip cream and primer. There was one disappointment, though. Nestling in the lovely ARK branded cardboard box, amongst the recyclable shredded paper, was four little cardboard boxes wrapped completely unnecessarily in plastic. <face palm>

Why?! What is the point of wrapping each item in plastic when the box it’s already in is doing a perfectly good job of containing the product?! Ugh.

Okay, now that I’ve got that out of my system lets crack on with reviewing the products themselves…

First up is the Age Defend Conditioning Cleanser with it’s deliciously scented kiwi and passion fruit lipids. It also contains Moringa oil to wash away make up and blue lotus to keep skin firm. This stuff is so lovely! It smells amazing but not overpowering and has proved to be a big hit with Andy as well as myself! I love using it in the morning to instantly feel clean, fresh and ready for the day.

After cleansing it’s on to the Age Defend Replenishing Moisturiser. The active ingredients are similar in this one so it smells just as good as the cleanser. The airless pump is designed to fully dispense the cream meaning there is no waste when you get to the bottom of the bottle, although that may take a while! Just one squirt of this award winning formula is all you need for the day so this little bottle will keep you looking fresh & toned for quite some time.

The Skin Essential Skin Protector SPF30 Primer is from ARK’s essential range which is designed to support their age specific products. Admittedly, I rarely wear make and when I do a primer is not always part of my routine, but I have to say this lightweight cream has converted me! The active ingredients of shea butter, vitamin e, mimosa, jojoba and sunflower make for a delightful fragrance and a formula that works hard to protect and hydrate your skin. I’ve definitely noticed my make up stays on longer when I use this and I love having the SPF protection, too.

The last of my gifted goodies was the Skin Essential Advanced Action Plumping Lip Cream . I wouldn’t normally have gone for this product as the word “plumping” conjures up images of trout pouts & countless selfies but thankfully ARK’s lovely Hayley is less judgemental than me and included some after I mentioned I had dry lips from running during the winter. She was quite right when she said it was great for hydrating as an overnight treatment! You need the tiniest bit and it soaks in easily leaving your lips feeling soft and smooth. This is definitely going to be a winter essential for me!

As you may have guessed, I’m a big fan of ARK Skincare! I often find that face creams can leave my skin looking oily but there was none of that with these lightweight products. It is worth saying that they are pricier than my old supermarket favourites but a little goes a long way and my skin does look brighter & healthier since using them. If you want to give them a go there is an option of a travel set which would be a great way to try out the range for your age group without having to buy the full size versions.

For those of you in your teens or 20’s check out the Age Protect products, if you are 30’s to 40’s try the Age Defend range like me and if you are over 50 the Age Defy formula is the one for you.

Overall it’s a huge thumbs up from me, with the small addition of a raised eyebrow for the unnecessary plastic wrapping. Hopefully they’ll sort that out because it really was the only issue I had. Next on my list to try is the Intensive Hand & Nail Cream and the Reverse Gravity Eye Cream. Has anyone tried them? I’d love to know what you think!
